This course has truly been a blast. It’s taught me a lot about the nature of historical research and the importance of variation in sources. More than any factual and scholar-based details and curriculum it also gave me the direction to persue an academic career. I started this curse unsure…

The narrative that has been spun from the defeat of the Axis powers during World War II has been the subject of many scholars, enthusiasts, and entertainers for years. Often a great emphasis is placed on the battles fought, and the heroes who prevailed in the face of an overwhelming…

If I am being completely honest my biggest reason for choosing to major in history may be entirely selfish. This past year almost exclusively made me realize just how little I know and understand about the current state of affairs in the world. I don’t understand how we ended up…

Overall this unit allowed me to appreciate the nuance and difficulty of interpreting historic work. It seems easy to remove objective bias when recounting past works and analyzing sources into a condensed narrative. However, upon reading and composing the works provided, I found my blood boiling and unable to remove my own emotions and by extension bias. Also, It is interesting to note others' opinions and conclusions around the same pieces of work and how they composed their own thoughts and opinions. It really brings merit to the idea of easier said than done. I feel I gained an appreciation for the study of history that I may not have noticed or thought much of before. It was beneficial and I would like to do something similar in the future as well.

For my research topic, I would like to study and discuss the ramifications of segregation in regards to the inequality amongst education received predominantly by minorities. I believe it is an overwhelmingly broad and important topic that would require an absurd amount of time dedicated to the research, defining, and overall narrative of how exactly the living conditions of minorities and disproportionately affected their education benefits and systems. Only recently did I understand what this topic means and I feel it is completely neglected in mainstream discussions in regards to systemic racism and the education reform conversation as a whole.

Looking through the series of articles provided for this assignment it was hard to form a well-rounded view of these events surrounding Columbus. If I were to explicitly focus on the letter submitted to Governor of New Mexico by John W Weeks I would find vitriolic and biased views of…

It is the product of others based around something or someone of significance. It offers a singular perspective. With that…

One concept that stood out to me more than most when learning about analytical reading was “predatory reading”. A catchy name does help, however, it is the idea of how one reads historical work that interests me most. I often thought when going through sources it was most important to…
